Dot got her hair cut! She had it cut in a page-boy style but wears it either curled under or flipped out as the mood may be. :-) It looks adorable. She is pleased with the results although at times it has gotten hot on the neck and she wishes she could put it all up. She also needed new glasses and she updated her look. She is starting to look preppy - like a teenager. Yikes! :-) When did my daughter develop such a liking for orange and green, along with pink and purple? It has been so fun to watch her develop her own style with her hair and room. Her 13th birthday is coming up!...
We started school!! Well, we are easing our way into the schedule. We started on Thursday with just Math and English. It is nice to get a few days under our belt so we can take a little extra time off at Christmas. Mom needs it! :-) Next week we will add to the academics till we are up till full speed after Labor day. (I hope) :-) I am excited about our new history program but am a little worried about getting all our books from the library on time. It should work fine, just normal jitters when starting something new. I like to stick to the schedule before getting flexible. Well, let the adventure begin!......

Good News
The good news is that I had my heart test and everything looks great! We don't have an answer for the reason I had a blood clot in my eye but it is not something that has created a problem in my heart. PTL!
Dessert has had a bit of a fever today. Not terribly sick but just under the weather.
Our plum tree is falling over under the weight of its fruit! It is loaded!! Makes me think of times when I feel like I'm falling over under the weight of too much good fruit. :-) Dunk is planning to prop it up and help it out. I hope it makes it!! It has been a very good, faithful plum tree.
Besides chores, here's what the kiddos have been up to:
Deer has been working on her painting. It is a detailed kittens picture and will require quite a few hours to finish it. She brings it out occasionally and works on it.
Dot has been experimenting with making earrings with the beads we have around. Several have turned out quite tasteful.
Duke has been trying out a perler bead craft kit where he puts the beads on the plastic form and then after he's done I iron them to keep them together. He's been patient with the time it takes to put all the beads on in order. I wish I could show a picture of their finished projects.
Drum has been working on painting a small wooden airplane. The practice with his small dexterity skills is good.
Dime hasn't started any craft projects lately. He's been enjoying spending time helping and watching Papa W up the hill. I think they both enjoy it. :-) He takes time out occasionally to bring home a toad or salamander.
Dessert enjoys any mischief he can bring to anyones project. Everything looks more interesting than what he could do. He has experimented with scissors lately to the demise of Daisy's favorite shorts and a couple nice pj's. He had observed Gma W cutting up a bathrobe to sew a Star Wars robe and it was after that he tried out his own fabric skills. Hopefully he has a clearer understanding now of what may and may not be cut. :-)
Dunk has been busy with work and occasionally getting overtime. We have really enjoyed how close to home he is working. He continues to check the Sunday paper for businesses and we are still praying for direction as to whether he should pursue another field, in case he gets laid off again.

Cabin Storm, Summer Busy, 75th Birthday!
Last week Monday there was a storm at my folk's cabin. The lift for the pontoon had the upper canopy supports upheaved from their moorings and the metal ends dug into the pontoon itself. Several big branches were knocked down, the flag pole was laid flat, and a few other more minor damage happened. It was wierd to see the flag pole flat and the trampoline in place. We expected to see it in the top of some pine tree. One of the big branches landed just between a canoe and the swing set. PTL!
The kids were excited to go up and see the damage, so on Wed. afternoon we headed up. Papa K took pictures and then we started the clean-up. After our sunset cruise to see the damage that happened to some of the other cabins, we had a huge bonfire with smores!! No wonder the kids like the cabin. :-) We sent several more days there with friends to pick up more brush and go tubing! The kids are starting to become more comfortable with tubing and are now telling me to hit the waves! (At first I was having to explain that I cannot continue to go straight forever on a lake, and that your feet won't drag in the water if you go fast enough to pull the tube flat.) Even Dessert tried tubing with Daisy and liked it.
Like Dot said, "I can't believe how busy we can be doing nothing." Seems like time is flying by before school starts again. I have one last piece of cirriculum to order, a few more cabinets to go through and clean out, zucchini to freeze, a small sewing project to finish, and a reading list to finish and get to the library. On Tuesday I have my heart checkup. Hopefully it will be one of those tests you find out you didn't really need. Friday we go to a wedding for my cousin. We are continuing to pray for him as he desperately needs a lung transplant.
Yesterday we celebrated Dunk's Dad's 75th birthday! We gave him a tool to help him hear the phone when it rings. His hearing is about the only thing failing him. Of course he complains of being older sometimes but to see him working outside, you'd never believe it. It was fun to see Br. and Sa. Br. got the kids hooked on Star Wars and now feeds their interest with magazine clippings, etc. It has really encouraged their reading skills. He gave them flashing light sticks which were instantly put to use as sabers. Then turned off to save the batteries!! If I play with someone's, they will be sure to tell me to not play with it too long, yada, yada, as then I'll run their batteries out! They are learning the value of a battery.
