Awana Derby #2

A couple Saturday's ago, Deer had her Awana Derby. She made a gymnast car and had a good morning with her friends! Great Job, Deer!
We had no cut fingers this year because Dad did all the cutting on the saw. We found out it was ok if the dads handled the major equipment. We were glad not to have any ER visits. :-) Deer has planned on this gymnist car for so long, even though we were iffy on whether it could be made. Finally I had her get into the pose she wanted and tried sketching it on paper and then the wood. She and Dad took it from there and somehow cut it out from the wood. Then Deer did the painting with some guidance from Mom. She had a trouble racing it as it turned out just a tad too tall to fit under a piece of wood that was on the end of the ramp. So she didn't win any awards - but I think she still has a cool car and it was neat to see her vision become a reality. :-)

Happy Birthday Dessert!!

Happy Birthday Dessert!!!! We enjoyed celebrating his birthday with family and friends. He wanted a brownie cake with lots of frosting and sprinkles. While the other kids were at basketball that morning, Dot and I were in the kitchen working. Dessert wanted to have some of the bread dough, so I told him to clean off a spot on the counter. He picked up Dot's CD walkman and started towards the stairs to put it down. Halfway there he turned to Dot and said, "Dot, if you give me a quarter, I won't wreck this." He's developing an interesting sense of logic. I found out later that the other night he told Deer, "If you come downstairs with me, then I can play with your ball." Hmmm....Quite a positive way to look at things from his point of view.

Earrings and More Earrings

Lately I've been working on my earring hobby. My sister-in-law took some to her work to sell - thanks!!! and it is fun to see a few ladies at church wear them. I love making them and most everything I've made I'm willing to wear if it doesn't sell. Sometimes I really hope they don't!! It has been fun to use them for gifts, although we have discovered not everyone has pierced ears. :-)

Stampin' Weekend

Recently all the girl relatives got to spend Sat & Sun at my Sister-in-Law's doing a Stampin' Weekend. We all had a blast!! and came home with cool cards and lots of inspiration. Within 24 hours the two girls had the card table all set up in their room for their Stampin' corner. They discovered quickly how nice it was to have a fully stocked stampin room. We were really spoiled. They hounded me until the following Wed. when we finally got tape on the dispenser like Aunt J's and a few papers to work with. :-) It was fun to visit, eat, and make cards. We had so many snacks I had to eat most of the peanut butter m&m's myself. I did share a few. We learned how to use rivets, ribbon, fancy glue dispensers, and chalk to make our cards look like works of art. So cool!! Thanks so much, Aunt J!!!

Awana Derby

AWANA DERBY!! A few Saturdays ago the boys had their Awana Derby. Duke was to young to race his car but they all had a blast working on their designs. Nobody placed this year for speed or design but they have their cars to remember their fun time. Great Job, Boys!!!

A visiting Opossum

Wow, I can't believe it has been so long since I've updated. Life sure seems to fly by sometimes. They say that the older one gets the faster time goes. At this rate I think I'll be going at jet speed before too many years go by.

We had some excitement at our house the other day. I looked out the window and was surprised to see our cat, Kip, patiently following a slow moving animal. I informed the troups and we rushed out to see what we could see. The animal steadily walked and by the time we got there was starting up a small tree. With the camera, I was able to zoom a closer picture. It was an opossum! I hadn't realized an opossum's face was so white. It was a blast. Rosie, the dog, and Kip waited and waited for the possum to move but I think he or she outwaited us all.
