A Success!

The first night of the play was a great success!! Everyone had a blast, and though all lines were not memorized perfectly, it went fine. Joy said she occasionally would hear a backwards echo and wondered about it, until it finally dawned on her that someone was saying the lines quietly back stage, and then the actor was saying them out loud. Funny!
Prairie Fire Theater does an excellent job putting the play on in a week. After two years of doing this, I am still so impressed. The two representatives they sent out are great actors and fantastic with kids!
Yesterday, I went with the kids to rehearsal to help Anna's group with their hair. I was going to go back stage and quietly work on it, in between when they are on stage. Well, the kids went to change into their costumes and then the play started, and I wasn't sure where the kids had all gone. I enjoyed watching for awhile, and then decided I better find them. I went around to the stage door and was surprised to not see anyone in the hallway. I opened the stage door and there were 40 kids quiet as mice, while the rest were on stage. WOW!! The order they keep and the way they do it is fascinating to watch.
For a photo op last night, they had the cast on stage arranged in groups, which they then told the kids to squeeze together. That happened so smoothly. Then she had the kids repeat after her all the directions for that night. ie - thanks for coming, to our play, we will put, our costumes in, a paper bag, the bag stays here, we go home, we will be back, at 9 am, etc., etc. Then smile, then cheese, then funny faces. Unbelievably smooth. Then she had certain groups leave the stage, and certain ones line up in front of the curtains, so that parents could get pictures of their child's group. Cool! As she sensed one group was done, she'd call the next group out. To say I'm impressed, would be an understatement.
Anyways...the kids had a blast, and I'll be getting them up soon for Take 2 this morning. I did take a ton of pictures during the play, so hope to post them soon.

I am so bummed we didn't make it - the kids slept in that morning and I don't ever wake them up unless I absolutely have to :). MAYBE next year I can talk DJ into going...
