Well, Wednesday, I got the e-mail system up and running again, paid the bills (most of them), did some school with the kids here, dealt with numerous phone calls, called the eye Dr. to find out when my appt. was (couldn't remember) and found out it was that day and I'd missed it! Urgh!!! Now the earliest time I can get in is the week before we leave on vacation, it's early in the morning, and it's on a Monday (did I ever mention Monday's are crazy enough around here!). Murphy's Law...
We went to Awana, came home, and found out the boys were coming in at 11:30 pm that night! I couldn't believe it. It took so much to get them there, and now they were coming back - late at night. I figured they wouldn't be happy to be home already, I made plans for the next day without them, and I just felt like I couldn't handle dealing with Darling and picking them up late. Thankfully, friends picked them up and brought them all the way home. PTL!!
Thursday was interesting...another unbelievable day in this crazy week.
Darling woke up about 5:30 saying, "The kitty licked me!" Sure enough, I heard Kip purring, kicked her off the bed, and tried to get Darling and I back to sleep. Pretty soon Darling says, "I'm scared." "Of the kitty coming back?" "Yeah." Ok, so I get up, go put out the cat, crawl back in bed. As I went by the back door, I realized Rosie, one of our dogs, is still tied there. Usually we tie her up in the basement, so she doesn't bark early in the morning. I'm too tired to go move her, so I just hope she won't bark. Didn't work...just after Darling falls asleep (finally!), the dog starts barking. I'm almost in la-la land, so I decide to ignore it and hope the boys will come up and deal with it.
Turns out Dot is thoroughly awakened by the dog, and gets up to let her out. She decides she's so awake, she'll make crepes for Mark's birthday (sweet sister!). While cooking, Grandma K calls, and Dot starts visiting with her. I hear the phone ring (7:00 am)(I'm usually up by now, but it was late with the boys getting in, I was up with Darling, so I still was in bed.) I hear Dot pick it up so I stayed in bed and start thinking what I've got to do and how I better get up and going.
All-of-a-sudden, I hear a tremendous crash and the sound of tinkling glass from Deer's room. Oh my!!!! I really don't want to get up now. I don't want to see it - I know it will be a mess!! I'm thinking her fish bowl fell over and there is probably water everywhere. I hear Dot come in to Deer's room and start exclaiming. I realize there is no way I want to see it. Let them start the project....I'll come later. That's when I hear them say - It's a bird!!!
Alright - I get up and go look. Shattered glass is all over Deer's bed (thankfully not where her pillow is, where she was just sleeping). There is a foot wide hole in both panes of her window. Looking down we see a huge dead hawk that hit the window. Unbelieveable!!!!! I'm thinking... Dh is gone, Papa is gone (he had eye surgery that day), my big boys are sound asleep...Ahh...I'm going to deal with this later. The girls asked, "What should we do?" I answered, "There is only one thing to do at a time like this, with a mess this big. Get the camera and take some pictures. This is unbelievable!" I'll post pictures as soon as we can figure out why they are not uploading and fix it.
We took the pictures, closed the door, and went down to eat crepes. The girls enjoyed telling each boy as he woke up. The dog eventually walked off with the hawk, so the big boys didn't get to see it. We looked, but couldn't find it anywhere.
I jogged, then cleaned up, and by 11, we left for town to get Dessert's birthday present. It was his birthday!! He had a blast picking them out. Darling walked into Toys R Us and promptly took off her shoes. "What are you doing?!" "My feet hurt!" "Well you can't go without your shoes in a store." "But they hurt my feet!" I got a cart for her to ride in, then checked out her foot with the shoe. Too small!! No wonder she kept picking her boots to wear, or her too-big dress shoes to wear lately. So, after shopping, we headed to Wal-Mart for tennis shoes. I discovered my three year old has an opinion about shoes!! She's only three!! I don't remember the other kids caring that much. They just enjoyed the new shoes. We finally agreed on a pair, and got to move on.
After making a grocery stop, we headed home. Ballet friends were there when we arrived home. They brought a cake for Dessert, so we sang and ate cake. Then the next student arrived, then they left, and Papa arrived for the concert. We all cleaned up and got ready to head out. What a scramble! We had a fun supper at Burger King, and then went to the jazz concert. It was well done, and Dessert won a strawberry pie, and mint cake at the silent auction (courtesy of Papa)!! He was so happy!!
We arrived home to a messy, cold house. Deer forgot to shut her bedroom door - understandable so, the temps dropped, and we had a foot-wide opening for the cold air to drift in. Dh drove up from out of town the same time we did. Welcome home, Honey!! :-) He started the corn stove, the girls cleaned up the kitchen and served cake, Papa and Gramma W brought Darling home, we enjoyed dessert, and then made up a bed for Deer in the young boy's room. Just as we were all quiet for the night, Deer went for something in her jean bag, and discovered an extra packet of barbecue sauce (that she saved from BK), had broken and spilled all over the contents of her bag. She cried - I didn't blame her. What a day!!!
Friday we got caught up in school and started the clean-up process in Deer's room. She's a pack rat of little stuff, so we had plenty to go through and make sure there was no glass in. (I should make her dust weekly, then maybe she would decide to get rid of some of those little things. :-) We cleaned up and looked forward to friends arriving for our monthly barn dance. The weather was nice, we'd had a hectic week, and not so many were coming at that point, so we decided to tone down the barn dance, and just play outside, eat snacks, and let those who wanted to dance - do so. It worked out great! The kids had a great game of soccer, then came inside and ate a ton, then played games. The dads followed Dh around while he finished closing up Deer's window and visited, the moms walked and visited and then served snacks. Everyone ate and played, and then most of us headed out for some dancing. It was a great evening!
Saturday morning, Dh had a job interview at 7:30 am. Drum, Deer, and I headed to a not-so-local Wal-Mart to sell movie tickets, and Dot's jam. (Still trying to finish selling those tickets.) (The jam went well. The tickets not-so-much. We sold four. I think it was just the wrong time for the movie crowd. Door-to-door is the way we need to finish selling them.) Dot, Dime, and Duke took over about 12:30, and we headed home for a baby shower. Deer, Darling, and I enjoyed the shower and even won a game!! Darling loved the babies present! We arrived home just after the Wal-Mart selling crew - who thankfully did a little shopping for Dessert's birthday supper. We cleaned up and made supper for him. I had forgotten to make his ice-cream cake ahead of time, so he and discussed options, and he decided to go with birthday sundaes. He enjoyed his dessert, but I missed having a cake and a birthday picture. Evening just went so fast. He got a remote-control helicopter from Papa and Gramma K, which he has just loved and played and played with. I think he's gotten their money's worth already.
Dh and I finally got some time to talk Saturday night, and we decided to stay home Sunday morning. We just need some time before he heads out again Sunday afternoon. That's why I'm getting a chance to write this. :-) I'm grateful for all the fun times last week, but I'm still praying for a quieter week, this next week. :-)
